![]() We developed 3D positioning devices to maintain the original position of the mandible during surgery. Based on the determined movement, an intermediate splint is made with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Using soft tissue simulation, gradual changes in yaw are evaluated from various angles to determine the optimal correction of yaw. Our strategy for facial asymmetry is as follows. Evaluation of facial contour is not sufficient only from the frontal and lateral directions it should also be performed from the oblique direction. Most cases of asymmetry require correction of yaw, and changes in yaw have a significant influence on the facial contour. However, these bone-level simulations also have some limitations. ![]() Three-dimensional (3D) models and/or 3D simulation are often used to overcome this issue. However, it is insufficient for facial contour correction. Treatment followed by two-dimensional (2D) analysis alone, such as cephalometric prediction, can achieve midline correction. Management of facial asymmetry is very challenging.
